Design Features

  • The styling mirrors are set into tall arches. At the top of each arch is a mashrabiya lattice in an old Arabic pattern. Clients in the chairs look like they are sitting inside a frame.
  • From the recessed ceiling hangs a group of brass lanterns. There are smaller ones too on the walls beside the mirrors. Their metal is cut with tiny holes and the walls end up covered in light patterns. A curved band with a geometric design wraps around the top edge of the ceiling.
  • At the far end the wash area is set back in an arched alcove. Behind the basins there is a geometric relief panel with light behind it. Being tucked away gives clients more privacy during a hair wash.
  • There is a reception counter covered in fluted stone. A soft light glows under its plinth and the counter looks like it is floating. Hair care products are on show in arched niches beside it with light coming from behind.
  • In one corner there is a curved armchair with a bronze drum table beside the mashrabiya screens. On the wall is a painted mural framed by an arch with palm trees and domes in it. The floor has a geometric inlay border running through it along the main walkway.

FAQs

What makes a salon look Modern Arabic?

It comes from mixing old Arabic details with a clean and simple base. Arches and lattice screens are common. Geometric patterns and lantern lights show up a lot too. All of it usually sits against soft neutral colours. Brands that want a local identity tend to like it more than most hairdressing salon design ideas.

Do mashrabiya screens suit a salon?

Yes but it comes down to what they are made of. Powder coated aluminium is easy to clean and won’t bend out of shape in damp air. Wood and MDF also work if they are moisture resistant and well sealed. The small openings collect dust and need a wipe once a week.

Does a fluted stone counter take a lot of looking after?

Slightly more than a plain flat counter. The grooves pick up dust and finger marks where hands rest. Going over them with a soft brush takes care of it. Hand cream and perfume are less of a problem on sealed stone. The supplier can say how porous a stone is before it gets bought.

Is lantern lighting enough for a whole salon?

Not fully. Lanterns give a warm and pretty glow. For haircuts and colouring though they are too dim. Teams working in commercial interior design in Dubai tend to add recessed downlights and mirror lights as well. That way each chair has enough light.

What does it cost to fit out a Modern Arabic salon?

The biggest costs come from handmade lanterns and custom mashrabiya. Stone carving and arched joinery push the cost up as well. A good first step is splitting items into two groups. One is for custom-made pieces and the other for ready-made ones. With that done it gets simpler to estimate interior design cost
